How to Clean Cannabis Resin from Trimming and Processing Equipment

Cannabis resin is sticky, hydrophobic and time-consuming to remove once it builds up. A consistent cleaning process reduces scraping, downtime and variability between crews.

Make the equipment safe first

Follow the equipment manufacturer's shutdown, lockout and disassembly instructions before cleaning. Protect motors, electronics, bearings and components that should not be exposed to liquid.

Remove loose material

Brush or collect dry plant debris before applying cleaner. This keeps the chemistry focused on adhered resin and oily soils.

Use a cleaner suited to resin

Apply the product according to its current instructions and allow enough dwell time for the residue to soften. Mechanical agitation may still be useful, but the cleaner should reduce the amount of force required.

Rinse or wipe as directed

Remove dissolved soil and cleaner residue. Dry and inspect the surface before reassembly.

Separate cleaning from disinfection

Resin removal and disinfection are different objectives. If the facility SOP requires disinfection, complete the soil-removal step first and then use the appropriate disinfectant.
